The Diavik mine is committed to responsible, sustainable and ethical business practice at every level, and has developed a global reputation for its exceptional standards.
Across its business, all Diavik mining activities have been designed to protect the natural environment, anticipate and address potential problems, meet all regulations, and consistently monitor its impact on its surroundings.
In addition, Diavik has also put comprehensive socioeconomic agreements and environmental protection policies in place with both indigenous communities and the local government. Since its inception, Diavik’s mining operations have been conducted in consultation with a council of indigenous members, and have incorporated traditional knowledge from local communities into their environmental monitoring programs.
As an extension of its commitment, Diavik has ensured that the local indigenous communities are served with new employment opportunities and job training, as well as education programs for the youth and elders of the community that merge traditional knowledge with science.
